Few Tips for Personal Interview

Dear Aspirants, after completion of the entrance exam and application submission the next step of getting in to a B school are GD & PI rounds. In our previous post we were discussing on GD opening and closing criteria. This article provides few tips on personal Interview.
The personal interview is a crucial round where the interviewer will evaluate candidate’s analytical skills, goal clarity, communication, domain knowledge, presentation and attitude of the candidate.
Here are few points that will help you to crack your personal interview.
1. The candidate should take a brief introduction about him/herself:
In a personal interview the first and foremost question is “Tell us something about yourself”? You will have to give the introduction of yourself briefly. Your answer should reflect your personality - your strengths, weaknesses and nature. You need to have clear clarity on your career goal, reason for choosing MBA, giving up your previous job etc…
2. The candidate should make the conversation as per his/her convenience:
There are some set of questions in PI which are probable same, where we can predict and prepare for those questions. But some questions are based on your answers. So while you are answering you ought to be careful and wise. Whatever the topics that you are not sure, you should not mention those.
3. The candidate should maintain eye contact and should give crisp answers:
You should maintain a good eye contact throughout the interview. Good and appropriate eye contact conveys confidence, self-esteem, honesty, Interest and Manners. Maintain eye contact with all the interviewers. Initially make eye contact with the person who ask you the question and as you answer the question eye contact with other interviewers as well.
While you are giving answer it should not be lengthy and indirect. It should be short and frangible. Means it should be short, but it contains all important points. You should avoid long and indirect answers. The interviewer may get bored and they will interrupt you in the middle. So you should not create such kind of situation.
4. The candidate should be Confident and Honest:
In any work, honesty is the superlative attribute; even in interviews honesty plays a vital role to get your job. When the interviewer asks a question, answer with confidence and honesty. Guessing an answer cannot help.
And when it’s telling about yourself, why you want to do MBA? Or why you left your previous job. Your answer should not be mugged up. Whatever you felt, say explicitly in your own way.
5. The Candidate should have General Knowledge:
There may chance of asking questions on current affairs, sometimes they will tell an incident and ask your opinion on that. As an aspirant you should have the awareness of current affairs.
6.The candidates should be punctual and be prepared:
Being late for MBA interview ascertain that you are irresponsible and rude. You should be there on time; you should look smart and decent with correct dress manner, appropriate eye contact, and correct body posture with confidence and warm smile on your face will create a positive perception on you by the interviewer.

Group Discussion Preparation Criteria

Opening and Closing criteria play a vital role in a Group Discussion, the candidate who is going to start the discussion, he/she will get more uninterruptible time, and at the same time evaluator gets the best time to observe the candidates. This opening time is the time where evaluators can analyze the candidates clearly, because only one candidate is talking and the rest of them are silent. If he/she starts the discussion on a good path he will be benefited otherwise he/she will be fired,so the opening criteria is like a double edged sword.

Opening a discussion is a very tough task but you will get more out of that from the evaluator. In Most GDs opening speaker will get maximum time to speak. The evaluator will get a good chance to observe the opening speakers; soit’s a challenge to be an opening speaker.

In the group discussion round, opening speaker talks make sense, if the speaker talks suitable and effective worlds will get credit because he/she opened the discussion and he/she taking the group inthe correct direction. If not, it will be a very big disadvantage for the candidate, because in starting itself, he/she reveals their shortcomings, so evaluators get negative impact on them.

So if you have enough confidence, suitable and valuable content with you (means whenever you have sensible content to say about the topic), then only you should start the discussion, otherwise it’s better to keep yourself silent.

Try to summarize the discussion at the end, this is called GD closing. While you are closing the GD, do not stress on one point of view, means, particularly either negative point of view or positive point of view. You should accommodate both negative and positive sides, means your point of you and others point of, at the last moment of the GD, use some famous saying, it will be helpful to you and if you have any quality points to say, you can tell so that it will help you to get good marks.

Basically MBA is a post-graduation, so the first and foremost opportunity is teaching, if the candidate has interests in the teaching field, he/she can apply for local college and universities as a faculty where they are experts.

So based on that calculation they can learn courses which is necessary and relevant to them.

If the candidate have interest to do business, he/she can start the business with the help of classmates and senior’s suggestion. Because they are all having good knowledge of it. So taking suggestions of classmates and alumni who are in touch with him is helpful for him/her to start the business with good ideas.

Even the candidate can connect with non-profitable organizations. Actually, one of the best ways to keep the skills up to date is, candidates should use that skills every day.In this practice, candidates can join in board or as a volunteer in any nonprofit organizations. Normally non-profitable organizations always looking for good skillful volunteers and board members. Here also candidate gets a good chance to explore them. Even for abroad organizations also looking for the skillful volunteers, candidates can utilize this opportunity, because it is the chance to learn another culture and new skills.

Freelancing work is one of the most beautiful opportunity to improve the skills, building effective career, establishing the connection with no. of people, organizations and industries, and earning good money.
